Areas of Expertise: Treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), concussions, and other imbalance issues related to the vestibular system. Sports Injuries Pre and Post Operative Rehabilitation Clinic Director & Compliance Office at Park Sports Edward Umheiser completed his studies at SUNY Downstate Medical Center with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013. While at Downstate he participated in research and community service activities. Upon graduation, he received a research study award in the area of balance and postural sway. During his final year of graduate studies, Edward was mentored at Lutheran Medical Center’s vestibular clinic where he worked with patients experiencing various degrees of dizziness, balance disturbance, and vertigo. Edward also serves as the Clinic Director and Compliance Office for Park Sports Physical Therapy. Edward is an avid cyclist and enjoys taking advantage of the excellent bike trails that the tri-state area has to offer.
Areas of Expertise: Sports Rehabilitation Neurological Rehabilitation Dr. Elaina Mezzasalma earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Miami and attained her Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Rutgers University. She competed in collegiate track and field as a javelin thrower. Competing at a high level and preventing injuries was her number one goal, which inspired her to pursue a career in physical therapy and injury rehabilitation. Elaina has had a variety of clinical experiences in orthopedic and sports settings as well as inpatient rehab. She has enjoyed treating overuse injuries and post-surgical semi-pro and youth athletes, helping patients to walk again post-traumatic injury, and treating patients with a variety of neurological conditions return to home safely. Throughout her clinical experience, Elaina has gained an appreciation for orthopedics, pain science, and sports physical therapy. She intends on becoming a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS). Elaina is enthusiastic about wellness, injury prevention, and community outreach. She has spent time volunteering at UMiami’s student-run pro bono clinic to provide physical therapy services to underserved Miami-Dade communities and worked alongside medical colleagues as the co-chair of the department of community service to provide free health screenings throughout South Florida. She is passionate about promoting exercise as medicine and hopes to instill new attitudes towards health and wellness in all of her patients as they work towards achieving their goals. In her spare time, Elaina enjoys going on long walks with her dog, trying out new recipes, golfing, and rock climbing.
